SME Steel In Pocatello To Close Down

Utah based SME Steel will be shutting down operations at its Pocatello steel plant.

The company said that because of lost contracts layoffs have already begun.

SME Steel plans on completely halting work at the facility by March 31st.

But SME is keeping the lease on the Pocatello building.

The company says it hopes when conditions improve to be able to re-open the facility.

SME Steel CEO Wayne Searle confirmed the planned shutdown, but declined to provide any comment.
