Andrew Schaat

The United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student recipient says he wouldn’t be who is if it weren’t for his good friends.

Madison High School senior, Andrew Schaat takes living in harmony with his friends to a whole new level. Andrew has an unusual hobby for a young man his age – barbershop quintet singing.

“I like being able to know if a chord sounds right, like we’re all locked in together to make that good sound,” Andrew says.

Andrew and his buddies have been singing together for a few years. They’re all into music and sports and have a great time.

“I think friends really influence the type of person you become,” Andrew says. “I’m lucky to have the good friends I have because I feel I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.”

Andrew keeps busy. He’s captain of the soccer team, involved in the ballroom dance team, in choir, and active in scouting – especially the Cedar Badge leadership training program.

“It’s a training camp for leadership so you learn to communicate, you learn to plan, you learn to solve problems,” Andrew says.

Andrew has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout high school.

“I think a lot of pressure is put on getting a 4.0 GPA, but I think it reflects your determination and your willingness to work hard for something,” Andrew says.
