Man Gets Prison In Rexburg Bank Robbery

A Montana man will get prison for the 2010 robbery of Zions Bank in Rexburg.

According to Madison County Prosecutor Sid Brown’s office, 7th District Judge Greg Moeller accepted an Alford plea agreement from John H. Green, 34, of Livinston, Mont., this week.

In it, Green said he could not remember committing the crime, but admitted the state probably had enough evidence to convict him.

Rexburg Police had said Green held up Zions Bank in January 2010, then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In exchange for the plea, the Madison County Prosecutor’s office agreed to drop a burglary charge.

Moeller sentenced Green to five to 20 years in prison, with five years were fixed and 15 years indeterminate. The judge credited Green with 711 days already served. He also faces a $5,125.50 fine and was ordered to make restitution to the bank.

The prosecutor’s office said it hopes Green will take advantage of mental health programs in prison.
