Caleb James
Caleb joined Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News in August 2011 from his hometown of Boulder, Colorado.
During his time at the University of Colorado, Caleb spent a year living in Christchurch, New Zealand studying Indigenous Development at the University of Canterbury. In the south pacific, he chased stories as far away as Thailand. In April 2010, during the Red Shirt uprising in Bangkok, Caleb gathered video and interviews for CNN. In early 2011 Caleb returned to New Zealand, where he sought out Colorado perspectives on a devastating 6.3 magnitude earthquake that rocked an already quake-ravaged Christchurch for Denver NBC affiliate KUSA.
His journalism career started at an early age. Caleb began working in news on both the editorial and management side of things when he published his own magazine at age 8. It was printed at a local copy shop, and although distribution didn?t extend far beyond immediate family – it was given rave reviews.
At 17, Caleb packed up a small video camera and some microphones and hopped on an ElAl Airways flight to Tel Aviv, Israel. The Fatah government was in its final months, and Caleb managed to talk his way into Yasser Arafat?s compound. He stood just feet from the Palestinian leader, only months before his death.
Back from Israel, Caleb was asked by the Colorado Press Association to join the Boulder Daily Camera newspaper as a features intern. Caleb stayed with the Camera until he was a junior at the University of Colorado – moving from the features department, to new media and internet, and finally to a year-and-a-half stint as a video weather forecaster for the Camera and other regional websites.
From there, an internship at Denver FOX affiliate KDVR had Caleb interviewing Broadway stars on the air, and producing a daily entertainment segment for the station?s local daytime talk show, Everyday.
Caleb is happy to be in Eastern Idaho, working for our viewers! If you have a story idea for Caleb, he?s all ears. Just send him an email: cjames@localnews8.com, and be sure to follow him on Twitter: @CalebJamesNews.
