Fire Burns In Jefferson County

A fire broke out west of Rigby on Thursday afternoon.

The fire started after a man burning a ditch near the road at 269 N. 3700 East spotted some wood he thought would make some good firewood, fire officials said. The man put the wood in a woodpile next to a shed.

The new wood, already exposed to heat, caught the woodpile and shed on fire. The fire spread to two other outbuildings, including a shop, at about 3:30 p.m.

As of 4 p.m., firefighters from the Lewisville, Menan and Rigby fire departments had the blaze under control. There were no injuries, and the damages are estimated at $8,000.
