House OKS Push To Enshrine Hunting In Constitution
Idaho residents love their hunting, but is it a constitutional right?
They may get to decide come next November.
That’s after the House on Thursday passed a measure to put the question of whether hunting, fishing and trapping should be enshrined in Idaho’s founding document to a popular vote.
The resolution goes to the Senate.
Its proponents say hunting should be enshrined along with freedom of speech and religion.
That’s because some fear radical animal-rights groups could descend on Idaho to put limits on what for many is a pastime they’ve enjoyed since childhood.
The push has come up before in the Idaho Legislature, in previous years.
This time, supporters have attempted to address Idaho Department of Fish and Game concerns the agency would still be able to manage wildlife.
