Local High School Students Charged With Heroin
A drug bust in a small east Idaho community has local law enforcement worried about how heroin has made it into a local school.
When Marsh Valley High School’s resource officer spotted students in a car parked near the school, he didn’t expect to find syringes filled with what police suspect is heroin.
Eighteen-year-old twin brothers, Ryan and Kyle Austin, are seniors at Marsh Valley High School and both face charges of possession of heroin.
Another 18-year-old, Zachary Leiby, is charged with frequenting a place where drugs are used.
A 17-year-old juvenile is charged with selling prescription drugs.
Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen said it’s a problem the community can’t ignore.
“There isn’t a school in this county that doesn’t have this present, and all this shows me is that we have to step up even further to be able to make sure this doesn’t come around. enough is enough,? Nielsen said.
The sheriff and a local judge will hold a public meeting about drug use March 27 at 7 p.m. in Marsh Valley High School.
