Ammon Man Comes Home After Year In Afghanistan

In a quiet neighborhood in Ammon, the Johnson residence was full of laughter and happiness Thursday when Devvin Johnson, a husband, father of four and member of the U.S. Naval Reserve came home from Afghanistan.

“Are we excited?? said his wife, Julie. ?Yes we’re super excited, aren’t we kids? We’ve been waiting a long time– a year.”

Devvin’s wife and children waited for him while he was completing a 12-month tour in Afghanistan,

Twenty-four flags surround the Johnson’s home, two for every month he was away.

“When we pick up our dad, we’re going to hide behind something and then jump out and wave our own flags, only little ones.” said daughter Katie, before the family saw Devvin.

The Johnson kids said they were been counting down the days leading up to their father’s return by placing one penny in a jar every day. As of Thursday, they had more than 650 pennies, give or take a few.

Devvin Johnson isn’t just a serviceman and a family man — he’s also a school counselor at Rigby Junior High School, and he’ll be seeing his students after spring break.
