Local Serviceman Returns Home From Tour

The arrival of Devvin Johnson, who just finished a tour of duty with the Navy, is something family and friends have been anticipating for a long time; and this afternoon, Johnson arrived home.

In a quiet neighborhood in Ammon, the Johnson residence is full of laughter and happiness now that Devvin Johnson, a husband, father of four and operational specialist first class member of the U.S. Naval Reserve is home from Afghanistan.

“Are we excited? Yes we’re super excited aren’t we kids? We’ve been waiting a long time… a year,” said Julie Johnson, Devvin’s wife.

While completing a 12-month tour in Afghanistan, Devvin’s wife and their four children waited for his return.

“When we pick up our dad we’re going to hide behind something and then jump out and wave our own flags … only little ones,” said Katie Johnson, Devvin’s daughter.

The Johnson kids say they’ve been counting down the days leading up to their father’s return by placing one penny in a jar every day. As of today, they had more than 650 pennies, give or take a few.

Devvin Johnson isn’t just a serviceman and a family man, he’s also a school counselor at Rigby Junior High and he’ll be seeing his students after spring break.

This was Johnson’s first tour overseas.
