Local principal wins national award

For the first time ever an Idaho principal won the national Terrel Howard Bell award.

Jared Jenks, principal at Sugar-Salem High School, was honored this week in Washington, D.C.

The Terrel Howard Bell award is given by the U.S. Department of Education. Tobe considered the principal’s school must have already won the national Blue Ribbon School award.

Sugar-Salem became the fourth Idaho high school since 1982 to win the Blue Ribbon.

Local News 8 asked Jenks how he felt about receiving the award.

“Humbling, you know there is many tremendous principals in our state and nationally. I just feel honored to receive the award, be nominated by the superintendent. There are so many people who play a part in this,” said Jenks.

The award is named after Terrel Howard Bell, who was secretary of education during President Ronald Reagan’s administration.Bell was born and raised in Lava Hot Springs.
