Red Flag Warnings issued for Monday

With approaching thunderstorms for Monday, the National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Red Flag Warning for portions of Southeast Idaho.

Sub-tropical moisture is moving in from the South, and the thunderstorm threat for for local mountains is especially high. The greatest concern is for the early afternoon storms, which could produce dry lightning.

Dry lightning is when the rain from a thunderstorm evaporates before it hits the ground. So the lightning can easily spark wildfires without any rain from the passing storms.

Winds are expected to be gusty, with speeds around 25 to 35 mph.

The Red Flag Warning goes from 9am to 9pm Monday.
