Man arrested for drunk driving in Applebee’s parking lot

Idaho Falls Police arrested 77?year-old Richard Hays for two counts of aggravated assault, driving under the influence and carrying a concealed weapon while intoxicated Friday night. Hays was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

According to reports, officers responded to the 600 block of North Utah Avenue around 9:30 p.m. for a report of a drunk driver. The responding police officers were warned that those you reported the man had been threatened by the drunk driver who had a gun.

The reporting parties told police they had just left another restaurant when they noticed Hays driving erratically. They called police and followed Hays to Applebee’s. In the parking lot they continued to observe Hays’ erratic driving behavior, including almost hitting a few parked cars. Hays parked his vehicle and then came up to the reporting parties’ vehicle and threatened them with a gun.
