IFDDC makes donation to local food bank

The Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation gave a generous donation to the Idaho Falls Community Food Bank Monday.

IFDDC donated 20 percent — $2,290.40 — of this year’s proceeds from the “Taste of Downtown” event.

“Downtown development isn’t just focused on our downtown. We’re focused on our community,” said IFDDC executive director Krisi Staten. “It (the community) supports us and in turn we support our community.”

Food Bank volunteers, like Jane Kaestner, say they spend $15,000 to $25,000 a month to help feed families throughout the community which could increase as more families come to the food bank in need.

“We serve Idaho Falls and everyone from Pocatello all the way up to Ashton,” she said. “That’s why we call it the community food bank. The Idaho Food Bank is in Pocatello and they do share some of their food with us, but if people think they are giving solely to us, most of it goes to them.”

The food distribution center is open Monday through Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. Food can be dropped off at 245 N. Placer, 4 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or Wednesday 8 to 11 a.m. Money can be sent to Idaho Falls Food Bank, P.O. Box 2236, Idaho Falls, ID.
