Bone marrow donors come to eastern Idaho

If you’re heading to the Madison County Fair this week, you may want to think twice before walking past one tent in particular.

Sharing America’s Marrow or SAM, is making its way to Rexburg this Friday.

SAM is a team of sisters who are passionate about getting people to register and become bone marrow donors.

In the meantime, one family that brought the group this way is encouraging people to become registered bone marrow donors.

“The odds of finding a match are so rare, we were so lucky I was able to give him the bone marrow, he went in five years later and he was totally cured,” said Jacque Beard, who donated to her brother at just ten years old.

Jacque’s family found out about SAM and decided to jump on to their effort.

SAM travels across the country, getting people to register to become bone marrow donors.

The process is free, but only individuals ages 18 to 55 are able to donate- as long as they make certain medical qualifications.

If you’d like to register to become a donor you can go to the Madison County Fair Wednesday through Saturday to register at the tent.

If you can’t make it out to the fair but would like to become a donor, you can visit SAM’s website here.
