2nd Annual Regional Musical

It’s the second year of the South Eastern Idaho Community Musical. The Blackfoot Community Players started the regional musical last year with their production of Disney’s “Tarzan”. This year they are honoring the 50th anniversary of “The Sound of Music”.

In 1965 Julie Andrews became “Fraulein Maria” in the movie production of “The Sound of Music” but in 2015 Pocatello’s Karin Dance will take the stage with the Blackfoot Community Players to honor the 50 year legacy.

“We’ve put a lot of heart into it,” said Dance.

Director Sharon Hoge has been wanting to create a regional musical in south eastern Idaho.
This is now the second year her dream has come to life.

Hoge said, “Last year we did Tarzan, and our goal is to fill this beautiful 1200 seat auditorium with people from all over South East Idaho. And then come join us!”

More talent has come in throughout the region.

“I am from Pocatello,” Dance said. “I know that part of the reason the word is getting out is because they are trying to make this, what they call a south east Idaho community show which they are looking to do every summer.”

The cast also includes a mother and daughter from Idaho Falls.

Savanna Stallings, who plays Brigita, said, “My mom plays the baroness and it’s so fun to pick on her.”

This talented cast opened up their final dress rehearsal as a free performance for veterans.

“Just kind of an open invitation to veterans to join us tonight , we thought this was a show they would enjoy and be interested in and could relate to,” Hoge said.

Cast members all agree that it’s the time and efforts spent by the crew and community that set this musical apart.

“They know what they are doing,” Dance said. “It’s been amazing to see the support even in the set being built. That set is beautiful and there’s so much love that has been put into it. Every night we were here there were men back there putting in time.”

Brigita says it best, “I put a lot of hard work into this so I better hear lots of applause.”

“The Sound of Music” will be running Monday through Saturday at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center, and the show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $10 which can be bought at the door or click here.
