Two climbers die on Teewinot Mountain
Tyler Strandberg, 27, and Catherine Nix, 28, were climbing the East Face of Teewinot Mountain in Wyoming with friend Rebecca Anderson, 26. Around 11:15 a.m. Anderson called for assistance after Strandberg and Nix had fallen out of sight.
Anderson made several attempts to call down to the women, but received no reply. She was stuck on a small ledge and unable to see or help her companions.
Rangers arrived by helicopter and assessed the conditions of Strandberg and Nix; both were unresponsive after their fall of 200 feet. The women were pronounced dead at the scene.
Rangers then made their way to Anderson who was uninjured and evacuated.
According to the Grand Teton National Park, the East Face is the typical route to the summit of Teewinot. The climbers were well off the route into difficult terrain. They were not using ropes at the time of the fall.
