Idaho Food Bank seeks volunteers for ‘Backpack Program’

While summer is in full swing, school will be back in session in no time. The Idaho Food Bank in Pocatello said they get a lot of volunteers during the holidays. However, in the summer months they do not see as many people coming through their doors to volunteer. And now is the time that they need it, as they prepare to stuff bags for the school backpack program.

The backpack program ensures that students who are not getting enough to eat during the school year can go home on Fridays with a bag of food.

The food bank prepares bags, and gives them to teachers in Idaho. When a teacher notices children in their classroom who might need the food, they will slip it into their backpack at the end of the week, so they have food over the weekend.
