Record number of students move into University of Utah dorms

The University of Utah has more residence hall spots available this year, which is driving up the number of students living on campus.

The Deseret News reported Friday that more than 2,000 freshmen are living on campus, which is the largest group in the university’s history.

Barb Remsburg, the university’s director of housing and residential education, says research shows students perform better when living on campus.

Data recently presented to university officials shows that University of Utah students who live on campus have higher grade point averages throughout their college careers than peers who live off campus. In addition, students who live on campus are 12 percent more likely to complete their college degrees.

Remsburg says the university hopes to continue increasing the number of students living on campus.
