Ft Hall man pleads guilty to assault with a deadly weapon

A Fort Hall man faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty Thursday to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon. Murray James Plentywounds, 30, was indicted in February by a federal grand jury in Pocatello. According to a plea agreement, the FBI was advised on November 29, 2016 that a stabbing occurred on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. A female victim was being treated at Portneuf Medical Center. An FBI agent found the victim being treated for a stab wound to her left shoulder. She told the agent that while she was riding in a car with friends, Plentywounds was in the back seat. He became angry at the victim and punched her in the shoulder. She saw that Plentywounds was holding a knife and realized that her clothing was cut and that her shoulder was bleeding. Plentywounds will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill November 20, 2017, at the federal courthouse in Pocatello
