Utahans flock to Idaho to purchase lottery tickets

The numbers have been drawn for the second largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

The winning numbers are 6, 7, 16, 23 and 26, and the Powerball number is 4. Before Wednesday night’s drawing the jackpot was estimated at $700 million.

Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Utah is not one of those states and when the jackpot gets as big as it did, Utahans flock to Idaho to buy their tickets.

“Five hundred to 600 people already today,” Jason Gugelman, a clerk at KJ’s in Malad, said.

The clerks at KJ’s just across the border from Utah in Malad said they have been working 12 hour shifts to handle the influx of people the last few days. One of those customers is Sean Welch.

“I’m not feeling it, like it is a for-sure thing, but I have often had luck in life with things that way,” Welch said.

It has not been determined if anyone won the jackpot.
