Law enforcement officials to up DUI patrols over weekend

Local law enforcement agencies are cracking down on drunk drivers on Friday and Saturday.

The Pocatello Police Department, Chubbuck Police Department, the Idaho State Police, Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, the Bannock County Prosecutors office and the City of Pocatello Prosecutors Office are putting an emphasis on DUI enforcement.

Not only will extra patrols units be out but if an officer suspects a driver is under the influence of something and the driver refuses to do a breathalyzer test, they can get a warrant to do a blood test on them instead.

“During that time if an officer gets a DUI and a person refuses, at that point we are working with the prosecutors, so we will automatically get a warrant for their blood and conduct a blood draw. So it is based off of a no refusal emphasis patrol,” commented Kenneth Mcclure from the Pocatello Police Department.

The extra DUI patrol units are made possible through a state grant.
