Voters approve bonds in Rexburg, Sugar City and Grace
Three school bond proposals were on the ballot in eastern Idaho Tuesday and voters approved all of them. MADISON: Madison school district voters have approved a $25.9 million construction bond by an 81 percent majority. The funding will build a variety of projects including classroom and science lab additions at Madison High School, a new heating and air conditioning system at Madison Middle School, a new gym at Lincoln elementary, and 4 new classrooms at both the Burton and Kennedy schools. The district will be eligible for a state bond equalization fund subsidy of $5.51 million. The school board said passage of the bond would not increase local property taxes. SUGAR-SALEM: Sugar-Salem school district patrons approved a $2 million, 2-year building bond by a 77 percent majority. The bond will help repair or replace worn-out items around the district including school heating systems, high school gym bleachers, some carpets and other flooring projects around the school system. The state bond equalization fund will reduce the overall cost to taxpayers by about $1.4 million. GRACE: A Grace school district building bond issue got mixed results. In Franklin County, the vote was 33 in favor and 33 against. In Caribou County, the vote was 321 in favor to 111 against. The net result was an overall 71 percent majority. The $5 million bond issue would finance the cost of a new elementary school. The district will receive $1.697 million in support from the state bond levy equalization fund.
