DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — After Bangladesh’s prime minister resigned in the face of violent unrest, one name has emerged as a possible caretaker until new elections are announced. Muhammad Yunus is a Nobel laureate known as the “banker to the poorest of the poor” and a longtime critic of the outgoing leader. The 83-year-old Yunus is currently in Paris for the Olympics and could not immediately be reached for comment. He called Sheikh Hasina’s resignation the country’s “second liberation day.” She once called him a “bloodsucker.” Yunus’ supporters say he has been targeted with allegations of mismanagement because of his frosty relations with Hasina.
