Lori Vallow-Daybell jury selection continues

ADA COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) - The murder trial in the case against Lori Vallow-Daybell is now into its second day of jury selection in Ada County.

Attorneys for both sides are whittling down a massive jury pool of more than 1,800 people to find 12 jurors and six alternates to hear the much awaited case against Vallow-Daybell.

On Tuesday, the prosecuting attorney’s asked the jurors to be brutally honest in their answers to the questions.

They say this is essential to insure the state and the defendant get a fair trial.

Much of Tuesday's questioning centered around media coverage of the case.

Jurors were asked to take everything they have heard or read and put it aside and only consider what they heard in the courtroom when they made their decision.

One of the jurors commenting he could be fair saying, “I believe in the process and I respect it.“

Many had heard limited news about the case but insisted they could be fair.

There were also some who had not heard about it.

The court is attempting to find 42 prospective jurors that have passed the first phase of approval before moving on to what is called peremptory strikes where each attorney will have 12 strikes to take people off the jury without cause. After that, the judge will schedule opening arguments which should take place later this week.

As of right now, eight more jurors were added to the 17 that were chosen Monday bringing the total to 25 of the 42 needed.

The attorneys were focusing on weeding out jurors who had seen particular kind of media coverage. They were focusing more on the extended documentaries that have aired. Almost every time if someone had seen even a part of some of those, they would be excluded as a juror. They felt like there was enough things in those programs that would cause sufficient bias in their ability render a fair verdict.
