IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Idaho Falls resident Kevin Cook announced his intention to seek the Idaho State Senate District 30 seat Thursday.

Cook said he'll advocate for greater educational opportunities for Idaho’s students, greater international exposure for Idaho’s farm products and responsible government spending in an era of great population growth in the state.

Cook grew up on a small farm, attended and graduated from college, started a small business and currently works for the Idaho National Laboratory as an Information Technology specialist. He is a proud husband, father and grandfather.

“With my background, I believe I have the necessary experience, drive and dedication to serve the diverse interests of District 30,” Cook said. “I have a great love for our community and believe we need to keep a dedicated, hard-working and committed person in Boise to serve the interests
of eastern Idaho.”

As a relatively rural district, Cook also believes that farming will remain a vital part of eastern Idaho’s economy. The availability of water will continue to be critical as farmers produce crops for local, national and international buyers.

“I’m proud that Idaho’s potatoes, barley, wheat and alfalfa are so internationally respected, and I want to keep it that way,” he said. “The proper management of our water is crucial.”

Cook said that taxation will be a fiercely debated issue in Boise for the 2020 Idaho Legislature and beyond.
