NATIONAL SUMMARY

Showers and thunderstorms will have the potential to cause

flash flooding on the local level in portions of Virginia,

North Carolina and eastern Tennessee tomorrow. Farther west,

afternoon thunderstorms in Minnesota, eastern South Dakota,

northwestern Iowa and eastern Nebraska could bring

torrential downpours, large hail, damaging wind gusts and

even an isolated tornado. Otherwise, a spotty afternoon

thunderstorm will occur in southeastern Arizona, southern

New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle and the Sierra Nevada.

Extreme heat will continue to bake Texas, with most areas

topping 100 F. Even higher temperatures are forecast in the

deserts of southeastern California and into Arizona, where

the hottest locations will have highs near 120.
