Man dies in Teton Pass crash

An Oregon man died after his brakes failed on Teton Pass near Wilson on Sunday.

Jay P. Winn, 36, of Hines, Ore., was eastbound descending Teton Pass on Wyoming 22 at a 10 percent downgrade pulling a car crusher when his brakes failed at 5:30 p.m.

Winn lost control of his tractor trailer, failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway as he approached the Wilson city limits at the bottom of the pass, and went off the right side of the road, where he crashed into and went through the guardrail. He went down an embankment and rolled. The tractor trailer came to rest on its left side, partially blocking Fall River Road.

Winn died in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt, according to a news release from Wyoming Highway Patrol on Monday.

The crash caused the closure of the east and westbound lanes of Wyoming 22, and the bicycle path that parallels the highway for about two hours.
