‘Bucket List Bandit’ to stay jailed pending trial

A man nicknamed the “Bucket List Bandit” by the FBI will remain incarcerated until he stands trial on charges that he robbed a Pennsylvania bank.

Fifty-four-year-old Michael Eugene Brewster waived his right to a detention hearing on Thursday in federal court in Erie.

Brewster will now remain in prison until he stands trial for the Sept. 10 robbery of a Huntingdon National Bank in Erie.

The FBI says Brewster is suspected of robbing nine other banks in eight states before the heist in northwestern Pennsylvania. He earned his nickname when he allegedly told a Utah bank teller that he had only four months to live.

Asked by a reporter Thursday if he was terminally ill, Brewster just shrugged and smiled as he was led handcuffed from the courtroom.
