Police want public’s help to find suspect in Wyo. abduction

Cody, Wyo., police canceled an Amber Alert for a girl taken from the Park County Library near Cody on Monday, but are on the lookout for the perpetrator

Just after 4:30 p.m. on Monday police say an 11-year-old girl and her two friends were approached by a man who says he lost his puppy. According to police, when he asked the girls to help him find his puppy, the girl approached the vehicle. Police say the man pulled a pistol on her, forced her inside and drove away.

At 6:45 p.m. police issued the Amber Alert.

Around 8:15 p.m., the victim was found walking on Spirit Mountain Road. Katelynn told police the man drove her to Casper Mountain and sexually assaulted her.

After the culprit released her, she began walking until she was picked up by a group of hunters.

The vehicle is described as a white SUV, possibly a suburban, with two seats up front and a mattress on the floor in the back. Police think the man may be living out of the SUV.

There is no license plate number, but there may be a black and red backpack and package of water bottles tied to the roof.

The man behind the wheel was described as white, 55 to 60-years-old, 6 feet tall and weighs 185 to 200 pounds. He has short strawberry blonde or white hair and a neatly trimmed mustache or beard. He was wearing a brown shirt, blue jeans and a tan baseball cap.

At this time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation have been called into assist with the investigation. Due to the Carter Mountain area being a common area for hunters this time of year, the Cody Police Department is seeking any information from hunters that have been hunting in the area recently.

If you see the SUV or have any information, you’re asked to call 911 or the Cody Police Department at (307) 527-8700.
