Simplot seeks wastewater permit

J.R. Simplot Company is seeking a permit to continue operating its Don Plant wastewater treatment facility and reuse system. The permit would also allow treated wastewater to be used for irrigation of crops during the growing season.

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is accepting written public comments through November 13, 2012.

DEQ officials said the permitting process requires the company to show how it will continue to address health and environmental concerns, including methods of preventing contamination of surface and ground water.

The draft permit specifies buffer zones, loading rate limits, and monitoring requirements to protect public health and the environment.
