Idaho Falls woman’s car burns
Leaving your car running for a moment while you run back inside seems harmless, but one Idaho Falls woman found her car completely engulfed in flames when she returned outside.
It happened just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on Garfield Street. The car was parked next to an RV and another car when the engine caught fire, sending a massive plume of smoke into the air. Firefighters were able to save the RV and the other car next to it, but the car that caught fire was a total loss.
Idaho Falls Fire Department Capt. Kim Sibbett said it’s never worth the risk to leave your car running, especially if you have little ones in the car.
“Realize that even if your gonna be in for, you know a few minutes inside the house, take your kids out of your car seat. I know it’s a hassle to get kids out of car seats and put them back in, but you don’t want to leave your kids in a car seat,” Sibbertt said.
The owner of the car does have kids, but no one was in the car when the flames broke out.
