Local students hold a mock presidential election

Wednesday was election day at a local middle school.

7th and 8th graders turned in their ballots and elected Governor Mitt Romney as the next President of the United States.

Rocky Mountain Middle School students have been learning about the voting process all semester long and put their knowledge to use.

Using a kid-friendly ballot and an actual voting booth, students made sure their opinions were heard.

Prior to voting Wednesday, the students wrote essays on the issues they think will influence the November 6th election.

“One was regarding same-sex marriage and the other was gun control,” said Shaun Martin, 7th grade teacher. “I thought it was apt for this area and for the hobbies the students enjoy doing.”

The Scholastic Students vote, which takes into account votes from kids across the country, had President Obama beating Governor Romney 51 to 45 percent.
