Shop asks for bike donations to restore for charity

Although Christmas is months away, many charities and organizations begin their holiday preparations early.

One Idaho Falls bike shop is asking for your help in spreading Christmas cheer.

For the last 15 years Bill’s Bike Shop, together with the Salvation Army and Saint Vincent De Paul, provide bicycles to families in need around the holiday season.

Last year, the shop restored around 600 bikes.

The order this year is around that same number, but the shop needs your help.

If you have any old or unwanted bikes taking up space, no matter what the condition is, drop them off at the shop.

“This is our way of being Christmas elves and the exciting part for us, it’s a lot of hard work, but when we see those kids at Christmas time receiving those bikes, that’s the pay off for us,” said Brandon Fell, manager.

Shop mechanics said they can usually restore a bicycle in about an hour, depending on the condition.
