Fire burns at Idaho Falls factory

A fire was burning at Oldcastle Precast on South Yellowstone Hwy. in Idaho Falls on Monday.

Fire officials said the fire started around 10 a.m. It was burning near the conveyor belt at the top of a cement building that makes concrete and was mostly out as of 10:45 a.m.

“There are gas lines up in that area so we got the gas company to shut the gas off. We’re trying to get that fire put out now,” said Idaho Falls Fire Chief Dean Ellis.

The conveyor belt is heated with a torch to operate properly. The roof and conveyor belt both caught fire, which firefighters scrambled to put out. Wind gusts and the height of the building made it difficult.

Most of the workers for the concrete plant were told to stay away from area, in the main building while firefighters got the structure under control.

No one was hurt in the fire and the department is investigating.
