Rexburg Fire Station bid accepted

Rexburg, Madison County, and the Madison Fire District will make up a $369,431 shortfall to award bids for improvements at the Rexburg-Madison Fire Station.

Barry Hayes Construction LLC, of Idaho Falls, submitted the apparent low bid of $1,676,911 to build a second-story addition to the building. The low bid was well above original cost estimates.

The second story will provide additional training space, office space, living quarters, and a kitchen. Currently, firefighters are training in shifts, which is less than ideal for emergency response units, according to Chief Corey Child.

The additional cost will be split among the three partners. The amount will be $123,144 each.

The project was awarded a $350,000 Community Development Block grant by the governor’s office last spring. The Rexburg Urban Renewal District is also participating in the project.
