Police Warn Against Halloween Pranks

The Rexburg police department said Tuesday that they had received several complaints about teens chunking pumpkins off rooftops.

“You never know who may be underneath you,” said Sgt. Ray Hermosillo. “If the pumpkins were to damage property you could have charges of malicious injury to property. If you hit someone that could be considered battery.”

Mosillo said there are also other things to consider during Halloween night. Although crime has been decreasing during the holiday, Mosillo says it’s important to keep kids from trick-or-treating in unfamiliar neighborhoods. He also said it’s important for kids to use crosswalks and avoid dark costumes.

“We want kids to enjoy the holiday,” he said. “Halloween is something they really enjoy and we want them to be safe.”

Cities across the valley are also encouraging Halloween safety. The Idaho Falls Police Department is providing parents with a safety video to consider. You can find it at http://www.idahofallspolice.com/ifpd-fop-launch-cop2ition/.
