Toddler drowns in canal; mother makes plea to others

The mother of a toddler who drowned in canal Saturday is asking other parents to keep a close eye on their children.

“Don’t ever leave your kids outside. The water is always deeper than it looks, and it’s always faster,” said Sky Duncan, the toddler’s mother.

Khyri Raffetto was reported missing from her daycare around 11:15 a.m. on the 4400 block of East Iona Road.

She is being remembered as a happy and lively little girl.

“She had a laugh that could fill up the whole room,” Duncan said.

She was 19 months old.

A neighbor located the child in the water. CPR was quickly started, and the girl was sent to the hospital.

Deputies say the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The sheriff’soOffice is still investigating the case.

Friends of the family have set up an online donation drive for final expenses through youcaring.com, a crowd-funding website.
