Utility seeks to buy power produced by BYU-Idaho
The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is considering a request that would allow Rocky Mountain Power to buy power generated by BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.
The university’s new gas- and oil-fueled generating facility provides space and water heating to the campus. It also includes a heat-recovery generating system that can generate up to 5.6 megawatts of electricity.
Under the proposed two-year contract, PacifiCorp would pay BYU-Idaho $52.28 per megawatt-hour for sales during 2015, $51.84 per Mwh in 2016 and $55.01 per Mwh in 2017.
The Idaho PUC is accepting written comment on PacifiCorp’s application through June 2.
