Rigby looking to entice big business

Rigby city leaders are taking a proactive approach to draw bigger businesses to their city. They’re advertising the city’s relatively central location in eastern Idaho, it’s more affordable property values, and it’s easy access to major rail and road ways. In particular, the city hopes to host several large industrial businesses that will provide a strong backbone for the local economy.

“It’s been my experience in the past in working with cities, that an industrial base once it comes, it usually stays.” said John Bingham, Rigby’s zoning and planning director. “Then the commercial development and then also the residential development feeds off of the jobs created through the industries.”

One of the main areas the city hopes to see future development is on a 60 acre parcel just east of US 20 exit 322. The land that sits inside Rigby city boundaries has easy access to US 20, the railroad system, and can easily be hooked up to city utilities and services. The future development stands to benefit the city as it provides a solid source of tax income and provides jobs in a place where most people commute.
