Food processing goes 3D

A local company has turned to 3-D printing to manufacture food processing equipment.

The 3-D system is called Selective Laser Sintering and it’s making its way around the country.

“So this machine, we feel, is saving money, it’s reducing time, it’s reducing labor, it’s allowing our people to do other things that they need to do. And simplifying the process of building machinery. So I was told this machine runs with the lights off. It does,” said Davis Christianson, one of the company owners.

Food forming pistons are produced on the 3-D printer from a food grade nylon.

Once the molds are completed, they are sold to customers around the world.
