Power to be turned off in part of Blackfoot for several hours

Early this afternoon, a pickup crashed into an Idaho Power Company pole on Bridge Street near Frontage Road and Bridge Street.

The crash didn’t cause an immediate power outage but it will require a major repair that will shut down power in the immediate area for five to six hours beginning at around 5 p.m. The crash damaged a major utility junction pole.

Destiny Marie Faye Walters, 24-years-old, was driving eastbound on west Bridge Street when she says she experienced a medical episode causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic and then off the road into the utility pole.

Walters was not seriously injured.

Idaho Power is working to “back-feed” electricity to as much of the affected area as possible.

The outage will affect around 30 customers and should be located between Meridian Street and Highway 39 east to west and Highway 26 and Riverton Road north to south.

Power should be restored to the affected areas by 10 p.m.
