Fire Dept. and American Red Cross distribute smoke detectors

The Pocatello Fire Dept. and American Red Cross teamed up to bring free smoke detectors to houses that need it most in the valley.

Community Relations Specialist of the Fire Dept., Kim Stouse says the Christmas season is almost here, which brings more fires about from holiday electrical lighting. But mostly house fires are caused by unattended cooking in the kitchen.

Both organizations went around an Through Hayden and Grant Sat. morning to houses within a 8 block radius. Communications Director of the American Red Cross, Anna Fernandez-Gevaert says 150 smoke detectors is their goal, and they especially go out to the houses based on the most fire calls.

Stouse says many homes didn’t have working smoke detectors.

Homeowners in the neighborhood were thrilled to have members of the Fire Dept. install free smoke detectors in their home.

“This is great. I love the Fire Dept. and the American Red Cross. In fact, the American Red Cross saved me and my family from a house fire back in 1948 in Pocatello,” said Charles Tademy.
