Election for Central Fire District Commisioner seat thrown out

The election for a central fire district’s commissioner seat is being thrown out.

It was a hot race for the seat, incumbent Roger Anderson only won by three votes.

But now, those results don’t count.

One of the major voting precincts was not included in the election.

The Central Fire District includes Jefferson, and parts of Bonneville and Madison counties.

However, voters in Madison weren’t part of the election.

This doesn’t mean their votes weren’t counted, it wasn’t even a question on the ballot.

The clerks office found the mistake after the results were contested.

Votes tallied in Bonneville and Jefferson counties show Roger Anderson beating Lori Newton by only three votes.

When the clerks office realized it made a mistake the secretary of state got involved.

The secretary of state recommended a new election be held next May.

Anderson told Local News 8/KIDK it’s an unfortunate situation and he realizes mistakes happen. Anderson wishes the election did not have to be dragged out for the next seven months.

Lori Newton has no comment at this time.

Jefferson County Clerk Colleen Poole was unavailable for comment Friday afternoon.
