UPDATE: IFPD investigates two armed robberies

Two armed robbery suspects on the run tonight . Both robberies happened just hours apart. Idaho Falls Police are still investigating if they are connected.

Just an hour and half before this subway store closed on Saturday night, a man came in to order a sandwich. Daniel Balls wasn’t working at the time, but his best friend was. After getting a call from that friend, Daniel is glad he had the night off.

His friend was working the cash register, and knew something was off about the man in line

“He was acting like he was going to do something,” said Balls.

When he was ready to pay, things didn’t go as planned.

“He pulled out a knife and asked for all the money,” said Balls.

The man threatened the employee at the cash register and demanded he open the till. He took about $160 and told both employees to get inside this freezer until he was gone.

“He was pretty shocked about, but he should be fine,” said Balls. “He said he handled it the best way he could.”

Despite that, the robbery doesn’t have other employees worried.

“No, I don’t know. I mean it’s Subway,” said Balls. “It’s one of the rarest things that can happen is a Subway getting robbed. But I’m pretty confident it won’t happen again.”

The suspect is described as a white male with a beard in his late 20’s or early 30’s. He is about 5’10” and medium build. He was wearing a blue beanie, black sunglasses, jeans and a green and blue rain coat.

The other robbery took place the 1400 block of East 17th street around 2:00 Sunday morning.

Original Story: Idaho Falls Police Department is investigating two armed robberies that took place this weekend.

Officers responded to a robbery at the Subway restaurant on Channing Way Saturday night and a robbery that occurred in the 1400 block of East 17th Street early Sunday morning.

According to reports, officers were dispatched to a Subway restaurant, located at 2220 Channing Way, just after 9 p.m.

Two employees reported that an unknown man came into the restaurant, ordered a sandwich and then pulled out a knife and demanded the money out of the cash register.

The employees handed over the cash and then at the direction of the robber went into the freezer until the robber left.

The suspect is described as a white male with a scruffy beard in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and medium build.

He was wearing a blue beanie, black sunglasses, jeans, a green and blue heavy rain coat, and black shoes.

The suspect left in a dark colored pickup truck.

Officers also responded to another armed robbery in the 1400 block of East 17th Street around 2 a.m.

According to the four victims, they were in a lot getting ready to leave when a black truck pulled into the lot and stopped by their vehicle.

The truck passenger got out and pointed a gun and demanded the wallet of one of the victims.

The driver also got out of the truck and yelled at the victims.

The victim handed over his wallet and the two got back into the truck and left.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies recovered the suspect’s truck which had been abandoned in the 1900 block of Channing way and a gun later in the morning.

One suspect is described as a white male with short dark hair, in his mid?20s, approximately between 5’6″ and 5’8″ in height and about 140 pounds.

He was wearing jeans, a dark top and a beanie.

The second suspect is described as a white male with short, light colored hair, in his 20s, approximately between 5’7″ and 5’10” in height and has a slender build.

Both these robberies are under investigation.

It has not been determined whether these robberies are related.
