Gate City Grays teams up with New Day company
“Don’t diss our ability” is the motto of the company New Day Products and Resources.
New Day provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Now, with baseball season underway, there will be more jobs for employees to do.
New Day is partners with the Gate City Grays, Pocatello’s semi-professional baseball team.
New Day employees will be taking tickets and helping with field maintenance. Other employees will also be making t-shirts and other Grays gear for both players and fans.
But New Day employees may also just be the Grays’ biggest fans.
“On game day it’s like I’m in the locker room,” said Terry Fredrickson, CEO of New Day. “These guys are just as excited as the players are because that is their team. They feel like they’re a part of it, and they are a part of it. They’re a huge part of it.”
The goal of New Day is to allow people with disabilities the opportunity for a job, who may otherwise have been turned away from work.
They offer vocational training and work in a variety of skills. They make trophies, do woodworking and car detailing. The team’s coach said New Day employees really bring a great energy to the players.
“It’s the attitude that they bring to it,” said Trent Seamons, the Grays’ head coach. “And the positivity and the motivation to help us out and I think that kind of leaks into our program as a whole.”
Both New Day employees and the Grays are happy with their relationship.
Nancy Sehorzman makes the t-shirts for the Grays and she said she loves every minute of it.
“Working here is an honor,” Sehorzman said. “And making the t-shirts for the Grays is wonderful.”
“We couldn’t do it without them, I don’t think,” Seamons said. “Just having their optimism and their attitude and their drive to help us, and their resources. It’s such a great relationship.”
Seamons said the employees know all the players and some of them even know all the stats of the players.
Fredrickson said he hopes New Day is a good example for people not to underestimate people’s abilities. He said this is a great opportunity for the employees to get to know the team and the community.
The Grays first home game of the season will be on June 10.
