Rexburg Police host Special Needs Luncheon

Rexburg Police Officer’s gathered at Porter Park today for their sixth annual Special Needs Luncheon.

“I’m here with my friends from journey’s and eating good food from the police officers,” says Christy Dearden. “they get the bad guys off the streets.”

Officers took time out to enjoy a cookout with special needs kids. The kids jumped on golf carts and took a ride with their favorite officers.

Chief of police Shane Turman says events like this help officers connect with the community.

“We as officers are not afraid of them because a lot of us haven’t been able to interact with special needs people, we want them to interact with us so in case of situations that we might have to handle and they wouldn’t be afraid,” says Truman.

Turman also says they are looking forward to more events this summer.
