Man arrested for armed robbery after fleeing from deputies
Bonneville County Sheriff’s office arrested 24-year-old Jacob M. Martin Tuesday after he tried to run from officers and crashed his vehicle.
Deputies started following Martin Tuesday evening when the car he was driving left the Legends Gas Station at the intersection of Ammon Road and 17th Street with no lights on. Officers had just been contacted and told that a masked man had entered the store holding a hatchet and demanded money from the store clerk. The store clerk complied and the man left the store. Two deputies were in the area at the time of the call and one spotted the vehicle leaving.
When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle it fled down a side street and an cul-de-sac where the suspect drove across yards and into the front end of the Deputies patrol car trying to escape. Deputies continued pursuit of the suspect who eventually turned south back onto Ammon Rd. continuing to the Taylor Mountain Rd. where he lost control and crashed on the gravel road.
Martin was transported by ambulance from the crash scene to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released to Deputies.
Martin was booked into the Bonneville County Jail and is being charged with felony eluding and armed robbery.
No other people were injured during the pursuit and along with damage to a patrol car there was minor damage to yard and landscaping at 2 residences in the area of the pursuit.
