The Henry’s Creek Fire was the single, biggest wildfire in all of eastern Idaho in 2016 and one of the larger ones in the nation after it burned to cover 52,972 acres before it was fully contained. The cause was later determined to have been fireworks and the man responsible arrested and charged for the crime.
DeOrr Kunz Jr. Investigations continue
The search for and the investigation of what happened to DeOrr Kunz, Jr. continued into its second year in 2016. The news surrounding the case continues to draw attention. This year saw the firing of the cases private investigator, the parents being named as suspects, and the one-year anniversary of they boy’s disappearance. DeOrr would now be 4-years-old.
Five-vehicle accident blocks I-15 near Blackfoot for several hours
An accident involving five different vehicles, including a semi with trailer and a truck pulling a 5th wheel trailer, blocked traffic on I-15 for hours earlier this year. The slow down and concern for those involved had views from all over clicking. The good news at the end of the day was that no one was killed.
One killed after semi collides with tractor on Higway 20
Another bad accident that blocked traffic this year and left one man dead. The driver of the semi tried to slow to avoid the tractor and then swerved but couldn’t avoid the tractor in the end.
Transgender person arrested for voyeurism at Idaho Falls Target
A transgender man was arrested in Idaho Falls earlier this year after being caught taking photos of a woman in the Target changing rooms. Sean Patrick Smith later pleaded guilty to the crime and has been sentenced. The crime got big attention just weeks after Target announced it’s transgender bathroom policy.
Local runaway teen’s death confirmed to be suicide
The death of Roger Ramirez rocked the local community after the boy was found dead after running away from home. The news that his death was a suicide, hit home even harder.
Power outage leaves upper valley in the dark for hours
Family homes and business alike were left without power for hours all across the upper valley after a major power outage in July. A fire at the Goshen substation knocked power out to people in Shelley, Idaho Falls, Ammon, Rigby, Rexburg and more for hours. The fire was later determined to have been caused by two crows who got into a capacitor bank.
