Blackfoot Broncos baseball drop close game to Skyview in state tournament
The Blackfoot Broncos dropped a close affair with the Skyview Hawks two to one.
The Broncos got solid pitching from Payson Mills went 5 innings giving up 2 runs while scattering 6 hits and walking three.
The three walks came with two outs in the first, but Mills got Jacob O’Dell to fly out to end the threat on a great play by Carter Cooper.
The Broncos struck first in the top of the second inning with Jace Jorgensen drawing a one out walk and hitting a double to center field.
It was in the third inning when the Hawks broke through.
Justin Villaneuva hit a leadoff double to the wall in right field.
Mills got a ground out from Bryson Vaughn to hold the runner at second.
Evan Harmon dropped a fly ball into right field for a single, but a great play by Juan Pimentel held Villanueva at second.
Wade Carpenter lined a single over Joseph Maddox bringing in Villanueva and putting runners on the corners.
O’Dell grounded out to Carlos Pimental bringing in Harmon giving the Hawks the 2-1 lead.
Blackfoot’s best chance to take the lead came in the 5th inning.
Mills drew a one out walk for Blackfoot.
Following a strikeout, Emerson Stucki singled to left field with Carlos Pimental drawing a walk to load the bases.
Joseph Maddox worked a three one count before making contact on a check swing which floated to O’Dell and got the Hawks out of the inning.
The broncos went down quietly to end the game.
The Broncos move to the consolation bracket and are scheduled to play Twin Falls Friday, May 18th at 10 A.M. at Melaleuca Field.
The Hawks will play Middleton on Friday at 4:00 P.M.
