Wyoming Free Fishing day set June 2

Saturday, June 2, is ‘Free Fishing” Day in Wyoming, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be on hand at the Rendezvous Park (R Park) to help kids up to 13 years old learn more about the sport.

It is the 28th annual Jackson Kids Fishing Day and it will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We’re happy to be partnering with the folks at “R” Park for the third year,” said Wyoming Game and Fish Jackson Fish Biologist Diana Miller. “The park has proved to be a great setting with room for kids to spread out with easy access along the shoreline making it ideal for beginning anglers, and lots of fish were caught the past two years!”

The pond is being stocked with hundreds of Snake River cutthroat trout. Volunteers will also offer educational activities including fish anatomy and biology, watercraft safety, and information on how to identify different types of fish habitat, their food, and aquatic invasive species.

“R Park” is located at the intersection of Highway 22 and the Teton Village Road (4270 River Springs Drive, Wilson). The Jackson Hole Lions Club will provide a free hot dog lunch.

Thanks to a grant from Jackson Hole One Fly Foundation, kids will get to keep their equipment at the end of the day.

Another Kids Free Fishing Day activity is planned at the Valley View Golf Course pond behind the Mountain Inn in Afton. That event is hosted by the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Wyoming Game and Fish, and the Star Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Smokey Bear will be there and there will be a free hot dog lunch. Again, kids will be allowed to keep their fishing equipment thanks to the Jackson Hole One Fly Foundation.

Adults can also enjoy fishing without a license or conservation stamp June 2 only. However, all limits and other fishing regulations still apply.

For your planner, Free Fishing Day in Idaho is June 9, 2018.
